The ATHE Level 4 Diploma in Accounting & Finance (120 credits) is the first foundation stage of the UK bachelor’s degree pathway, designed for learners who want to build strong academic and practical skills in finance, accounting, and business operations. This Ofqual-regulated Level 4 qualification is equivalent to the first year of a UK Bachelor’s Degree, making it an excellent option for students who want an affordable, internationally recognized academic route.
This level develops essential competencies including financial reporting, management accounting, budgeting, business environment understanding, quantitative analysis, and ethical financial practices. Through industry-relevant modules and UK-based academic standards, students gain the knowledge and confidence needed to progress into advanced study or entry-level roles.
By completing the Level 4 modules and assignments, students earn 120 credits, which are fully aligned with the credit requirements of the first year of many international university degree programs.
ATHE Level 4 is designed for students beginning their UK bachelor’s pathway. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
A GCE Advanced level profile with achievement in 2 or more subjects supported by 5 or more GCSEs at grades 4 and above
Other related level 3 subjects such as ATHE level 3
An Access to Higher Education Certificate delivered by an approved further education institute and validated by an Access Validating Agency

Financial Accounting 1 15 Credits Mandatory
The aim of this unit is to develop the financial reporting skills of those who manage or seek to manage the day to day finances and financial needs of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and small and medium practices (SMPs).The unit will develop the ability to prepare financial statements according to the International Accounting Standard for Small and Medium-Sized entities (IFRS for SMEs) and to interpret financial statements prepared according to that standard.

Learners will develop the ability to prepare financial statements according to the International Accounting Standards for Small and Medium-Sized entities (IFRS for SMEs). Learners will gain knowledge and skills required to enable them to measure performance and assess the financial position of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and small and medium practices (SMPs).
Budgetary Control 15 Credits Mandatory
The aim of this unit is to develop knowledge and ability in identifying and evaluating sources of finance, managing and improving working capital, preparing budgets for functional departments and understand the importance of budgetary control for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and small and medium practices (SMPs).
Cost and Management Accounting 15 Credits Mandatory
Individuals will have the skills to provide relevant information for shortterm and long-term decision making in relation to costing and pricing, whilst ensuring that employees are motivated to achieve individual objectives and the objectives of the business as a whole.
Personal Taxation 15 Credits Mandatory
The aim of this unit is to enable individuals to understand taxation as it affects individuals within the regulatory context in which they are working. For the UK, the unit will focus on income tax, National Insurance (NI) contributions and capital gains tax. In other jurisdictions, equivalent personal taxes should be explored.
Business Environment 15 Credits Mandatory
This unit will develop learners’ understanding of the business environment and the internal and external conditions in which different organisations operate. Learners will also gain understanding of organisational responsibilities and structures.
Economics for Business 15 Credits Mandatory
This unit will provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of the national and international economic environment and their impact on how businesses operate. They will also consider the implications for business of changes in the economic environment.
Law for Accounting 15 Credits Mandatory
The aim of the module is to develop understanding of how law within a national jurisdiction impacts on business organisations and professional accountancy practice.
After completing ATHE Level 4 in Accounting & Finance, students have two progression options - they may continue to ATHE Level 5 Diploma in Accounting & Finance or move toward the UK Top-Up route (depending on university entry policies). After completing Level 4 and Level 5, learners become eligible to enter the final year (Level 6 Top-Up) of a UK BA/BSc (Hons) Accounting & Finance or related business degree. This pathway provides a fast, cost-effective route to earning a full UK university-awarded bachelor’s degree.

1. What is the UK Accounting & Finance Diploma (ATHE Level 4 & 5) Program?
This pathway enables students to complete Level 4 & Level 5 in Accounting and Finance in Pakistan (equivalent to Year 1 and Year 2 of a UK Bachelor’s degree). After completing both levels, students can progress to a Level 6 Top-Up year at a UK university to earn a full BA/BSc (Hons) in Accounting & Finance.
2. Is ATHE recognized internationally?
Yes. ATHE is regulated by Ofqual (UK Government) and accepted worldwide by universities and professional institutions for advanced standing and progression.
3. Is this qualification equivalent to the first two years of a UK degree?
Yes:
Level 4 = Year 1 of a UK degree
Level 5 = Year 2 of a UK degree
4. Can I do a Top-Up after Level 4 only?
Students have two options after completing Level 4:
Option 1: Complete Level 5 at EdSkills
Option 2: Complete Level 5 directly with an accepting university
However, you cannot enter the final-year Top-Up (Level 6) with Level 4 only.
To qualify for a Top-Up degree, you must first complete:
Level 4
Level 5 (either at EdSkills or at a Top-Up university)
5. Do I need IELTS for Level 4 & 5?
Not always. EdSkills may accept internal English assessments.
IELTS is generally needed only for UK on-campus Top-Up, not for online Top-Up pathways.
6. What is the duration of the program?
